Salt lake – Aksaray
Lake Ace is a real bird’s paradise. Tuz Gölü is one of the richest basins in Turkey, with hundreds of bird species living in small lakes and swamps around it. This region is on the migratory path of wild birds, the absence of important wetlands in the middle of the steppe, except for Tuz-Golyu and its environs, directs migratory birds to the Salt Lake. The lake, which does not freeze in winter due to its high salt content, is also a good refuge for migratory birds.
Flamingos, cranes, wild geese, axillary, angut and similar birds, as well as plovers and wild ducks live in groups in the lake. Small lakes, ponds and swamps around the lake continue to be inhabited by marsh terns, anguts and some species of gulls.
Lake Tuz is an extremely rich area both in terms of fauna and flora. While saline areas usually do not contain endemic species, it should be noted that Tuz-Gölü is rich in endemic species. Although there are 38 endemic species around Tuz-Gölü, almost 20 of them are found only in Tuz-Gölü and its environs of Eskil and Eshmekaya.
