Lake Kovada is a small, freshwater lake located on a fracture extending in the north-south direction, in the north of Antalya Bay, in the province of Isparta. It is in the Lake District. It is a natural extension of Lake Eğirdir and the excess water in Lake Eğirdir flows into Lake Kovada through a channel.
Faults are active on the east and west coasts of the depression where the lake is located. The lake was formed as a result of tectonism and karstic melting.
The Egirdir Lake depression extends to the south under the name of the Bosphorus Plain. This place shows the characteristic of a valley, it expands from place to place and gains a plain appearance. Some places are reeds and reeds. The waters coming from Lake Eğirdir enter the sinkholes from time to time, go underground, and then come back to the surface. Kovada Lake was formed in the south of this north-south trough. Covering a karst depression, this lake is 6 km long and 2-3 km wide. Kovada Lake is located 908 meters above sea level, has an area of 7.9 km2, and its deepest point is only 6 meters.
Its waters are sweet. Kurudere, as a going-to, drains the lake’s waters out. However, this water dries up in summer. The lake loses water mostly with sinkholes. The sinking waters rise to the surface near Haymana Village.
The surrounding of Lake Kovada, which is 24 km away from Eğirdir, has rich vegetation and hosts hundreds of animals. Due to these features, it has taken the character of “National Park”. The altitude of Kovada Lake, which has an area of approximately 40 km2 and consists of karst depressions, is 900 meters in length, 6 km in length, 2-3 km in width, and 6-7 meters in depth.
Fish living in Kovada Lake are caught. Scale carp, pike perch, tench, silver crucian fish live in the lake. Kovada Lake has been taken under protection as a National Park. The contribution of Lake Kovada to the economy is also great.
