Lake Eğirdir is Turkey’s second largest freshwater lake. In addition to being a natural drinking water pool, it is a structure of international importance in terms of biodiversity value.
While there are 514 different bird species in Europe, 454 birds live in Turkey and 225 birds live around Lake Eğirdir.
Lake Eğirdir gives life to the environment thanks to its usage values such as fishing, agriculture (especially apple growing), drinking water supply, and the species living in it. Almost all species of lake fish such as crayfish and pike are exported abroad. However, apple production in the region accounts for about 20 percent of Turkey’s total.
